‘Gold Jacket, 3 Super Bowls’: Joey Porter Jr. Sets Goals for Career

In the NFL, there is one achievement that represents the ultimate individual accomplishment in the sport. That would be getting enshrined in Canton, Ohio, and receiving a gold jacket along with a bust of your likeness in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. However, it is rare that you hear a rookie state that is his goal from the outset of his NFL career, but that is exactly where Joey Porter Jr. wants to be.

Appearing on The Pivot Podcast with his dad, Joey Porter Sr., he opined about how he is looking to the sky for his NFL goals. The biggest one outside of winning a Super Bowl is that Joey Porter Jr. wants to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. He hopes he can get there by the time he calls it a career.

“I want to be one of those guys that are in the conversation for best cornerbacks to ever play the game,” Porter Jr. said. “I don’t play the game for the money part. When I grew up, my dad already had it. It was never a stress for me to make a certain amount of money to live comfortably. The game plan my mom and dad set for us was perfect. I play the game for those types of reasons. I want to put on a gold jacket, I want to win three Super Bowls. You know, I want to be the Defensive Rookie of the Year, All-Pro, make the Pro Bowl, all the stuff my dad has done. I want to do that too but to my own extent.”

That is the type of legacy that winning in the family will make you feel as a football player. Porter Jr. wants to accomplish it all across the NFL, and he could do it right where his dad did most of his damage in the league with the Steelers. The first goal he can achieve right away is to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year. It is hard for cornerbacks to win that, but with a lockdown season, he could put himself in contention to do that.
