The Steelers could look to land a quarterback, but is Jacoby Brissett the answer?

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback situation is still in its infancy in the offseason. There is one thing that feels certain, and that is the return of Kenny Pickett. But outside of that, the team has expressed a desire to re-sign Mason Rudolph, but obviously, no guarantee will happen.

That could leave the door open to other mid-tier quarterback options. With Arthur Smith at the helm, Ryan Tannehill is being speculated about, but others are also out there. Bleacher Report believes the team should look into signing Commanders quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

“Washington, which has the No. 2 overall pick and appears poised to move off of Howell, would be wise to re-sign Brissett. He would also make sense for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who plan to bring in competition for Kenny Pickett this offseason,” they wrote.

Brissett only played in three games during the 2023 season. He was set to take over late in the season, but a pulled hamstring forced him to sit out, with Howell again taking the reins for the offense. But Brissett has started for multiple teams, including the Patriots, Colts, and Browns, over his career, and he has proven to give the teams that he plays for quality play. It’s not starter-level play, but it keeps the team afloat.

Earlier on Thursday, Alan Saunders wrote that he thought most of quarterbacks at the Senior Bowl disappointed and would not be great targets given their three days here at this event. He was not wrong; this was not a particularly great week for anyone, and that thought was common among everyone you talked to, especially Bo Nix and Michael Penix.

And so, the draft is another avenue for the Steelers to add to the room, but it looks like a top-heavy class and might lack that developmental option. If so, someone like Brissett, who offers that type of floor, becomes even more important to the equation.
