Carter, 25, signed with the Steelers on August 8 and immediately came to Latrobe. He was cut by the Arizona Cardinals in May. Carter has spent time with a number of other teams, including the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, and Indianapolis Colts since coming out of James Madison as an undrafted free agent in the 2020 NFL Draft.

In the past, Ron’dell Carter was active in four career games where he racked up one total tackle. He played in one game in 2021 with the Texans and three games with the Cowboys during his rookie season. During his career with the Dukes in Harrisonburg from 2017 to 2019, Carter racked up 23.5 sacks and 48 tackles over his career.

The Steelers are searching for outside linebacker depth, and Carter has a chance to stick on the practice squad as a potential experienced option.

Carter is now the third player to be released on Monday reportedly. He joins Linden Stephens and Jace Sternberger as players who have been released thus far. The Steelers have until 4 p.m. on Tuesday to cut their roster down to 53 players. After that, they will add 16 players to their practice squad.
