Steelers Sights and Sounds: Jaylen Warren Works on Agility

Steelers RB Jaylen Warren

PITTSBURGH — Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris returned to work on Saturday, two days after the Steelers concluded their preseason action. Alongside running backs Greg Bell, Xazavion Valladay, Greg Bell, Darius Hagans, and even Connor Heyward, the group worked on their jump cuts and reads off multiple concepts and pass protection.

Jaylen Warren and Harris worked on inside zone, split zone, and outside zone reads throughout the practice. The Steelers running back room should be one that takes a natural leap. With a better offensive line and another year of experience for two young running backs, that expectation seems about right.

Running backs coach Eddie Faulkner and the offense will need the running backs to be the bastion of the offense that seeks to make first down the most important down of the game for them. George Pickens and other receivers talked about the need to make the running game a crucial part of what allows the passing game to create explosive plays for second-year quarterback Steelers QB Kenny Pickett.

Warren sports a new physique that makes him look jacked. Harris looks as big as he ever has and is primed for a strong year three behind a solid offensive line. Meanwhile, others, such as Anthony McFarland, continue to compete for the RB3 spot behind those two as they are heavily entrenched. Whoever comes out, likely McFarland of that group, potentially as the return man as well, will likely earn a roster spot.
