Former Steelers DC Lands College Job

Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Tim Lewis is landing the defenisve coordinator job at Boston College, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. Lewis spent time with six different organizations in the NFL, but is now heading to the college ranks to join Bill O’Brien at Boston College as they build out their coaching staff. Former Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley left the team to join the Green Bay Packers as their defensive coordinator.

A University of Pittsburgh alum, Lewis coached at Pitt from 1993 to 1995 and then joined the Steelers as the defensive backs coach in 1996. He would coach there until he was promoted to defensive coordinator, but the team moved on after 2003. Lewis would join the New York Giants before roaming around the NFL as a secondary coach. He last coached in the NFL in 2015 with the San Francisco 49ers.

Since that time, Lewis has coached in the XFL with the St. Louis Battlehawks, Houston Gamblers, and Arlington Renegades, and he was set to be the defensive coordinator with the Renegades before being hired for the job in Chestnut Hill. He was drafted in the first round in 1983 and played with the Green Bay Packers for his entire career, but his career was cut short after suffering a neck injury.
