Steelers QB Caleb Williams 2024 NFL Draft

Some wild trade propositions involve the Steelers around this time of year. Yesterday, news broke the Steelers could be interested in Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. But on Friday, that might have been topped by Colin Cowherd, who had an insane proposition for the Steelers to make.

Cowherd believes the Steelers’ weak point on the roster is quarterback. It’s not yet known what Kenny Pickett is, but Cowherd is leaning more out than in on him. He thinks that Pittsburgh should move heaven and earth to go up and get Caleb Williams. As talented as Williams is, Pittsburgh would have to move up to the 1st overall pick to land the talented USC quarterback. Cowherd’s proposal, as such, makes the eyes pop out of your sockets.

“If I’m Pittsburgh, I would give up Watt, 3 1st Round Picks, and Pickens for Caleb Williams. I would,” Cowherd said.

To say the leat, that is an extremely hard ask for Pittsburgh. Even if Williams is talented and quarterback means that much to teams, trading away one of the best defensive players in the NFL, a rising star wide receiver, and then your next three first-round picks does not seem that tentable on the surface. It puts Pittsburgh into the wrong spot and, more than that, makes Williams’ job all that much harder.

As hard as it is to find quarterbacks in the NFL, putting them in good positions to development and mature is equally as necessary early in their career. Bryce Young, for example, has struggled to find his footing in Carolina without a top receiver once the Panthers moved D.J. Moore to go up and get him. Regardless, Pittsburgh still has confidence in Pickett to turn a rocky start to the season around and prove he should be kept around further into the future. Even if the team loves Williams and wants to go get him, it seems unlikely they will give up that insane package to land.
