Steelers OT Troy Fautanu’s Latest Injury to Opposite Knee
The latest knee injury for Pittsburgh Steelers rookie offensive tackle Troy Fautanu came to his right knee, the opposite of his previous one.
PITTSBURGH — The potentially season-ending knee injury to Pittsburgh Steelers rookie right tackle Troy Fautanu is on his right knee, the opposite leg of the one that he injured in training camp.
Fautanu was in the Steelers locker room on Monday, presumably for treatment, wearing a sleeve over his right knee. Fautanu suffered a left MCL sprain in the first preseason game of the 2024 season.
That injury caused him to miss the rest of the preseason, and he dressed as a backup only in the team’s Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Fautanu started against the Denver Broncos in Week 2, but suffered the right knee injury on Friday’s practice leading up to the home opener against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
Fautanu suffered a dislocated kneecap with ligament damage, is expected to need surgery on his right knee and will miss at least the entire regular season, according to a report by Ian Rapoport on Sunday.
With Fautanu out indefinitely, second-year tackle Broderick Jones was back in the starting lineup on Sunday. Fautanu had replaced Jones in Week 2.
Jones has been dealing with injury issues of his own. He played without an elbow brace for the first time against the Chargers after injuring his right elbow in training camp.
Dylan Cook, the team’s fourth tackle, is also out. He’s on the injured reserve list with a Lisfranc injury to his right foot. He is eligible to come off the IR list for Week 5, but his absence is expected to extend beyond that point, Steelers Now has learned.
