Player Prop Bets for Kenny Pickett in First Start

Steelers QB Kenny Pickett

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett will make his first NFL start this Sunday in Buffalo, New York against the Bills. How will Pickett do? The oddsmakers have him pegged for a fairly average age day in his first full-game action.

According to odds posted Wednesday by BetOnline.ag, Pickett as an over/under total of 219 1/2 passing yards, over (+170) or under (-250) 1 1/2 touchdowns and over (-175) or under (+135) one interception.

In his first NFL action in Week 4 against the New York Jets, Pickett threw for 120 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions in one half of football. So the bookmakers think that Pickett will throw for fewer yards, but more touchdowns and fewer interceptions on average against the Bills than he did against the Jets. Pickett also had two rushing touchdowns.

In three preseason games, Pickett threw a total of 36 times, completing 19 for 261 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

The 24-year-old was the Steelers’ first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Pitt. Pickett played five seasons with the Panthers, the last four as a full-time starter. He threw for 12,303 yards, 81 touchdowns and seven interceptions in his time at Pitt and left as the program’s all-time leader in almost every passing statistical category.

Pickett replaced Mitch Trubisky, who started the Steelers’ first four games. On the season, Trubisky completed 69 of 116 for 653 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

As far as the rest of the game against the Bills, the Steelers remain historic 14-point underdogs, which would be the team’s largest point spread as an underdog since at least the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. The Steelers were 13.5-point underdogs in Super Bowl XXX in 1996.
