Promising Steelers Wide Receiver Clears Waivers, Reverts to IR
Promising Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Tarik Black has cleared waivers and reverted to the team's injured reserve list.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Tarik Black has cleared waivers and has reverted to the team’s injured reserve list, according to the NFL transactions page.
Black suffered a hamstring injury during Steelers training camp practice on Sunday, and was waived with an injury designation on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-3, 217-pound receiver first joined the Steelers on July 31, after rookie Roman Wilson suffered an ankle injury. Black had been playing well at the time of his injury, and had made a quick positive impression in just a few weeks with the team.
After Black was injured, the Steelers replaced him on their 90-man offseason roster with former New England Patriots wide receiver and kick returner T.J. Luther.
Because hamstring injuries are rarely season-ending, the Steelers will likely reach an injury settlement with Black and release him from the injured reserve list. Players on the injured reserve list can be paid an injury settlement, which pro-rates their salary for the number of weeks they are expected to miss. Once those weeks have passed, Black would then be eligible to sign with any NFL team.
