Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is known as one of the NFL’s iron men and exemplifies toughness in the league. Throughout the years, he has played through dozens of injuries, so it’s encouraging for the Rams, who play the Steelers on Sunday, that he has yet to hit the injury report. But he is battling an ailment that Los Angeles’ trainers continue to watch closely.

According to Dianna Russini of the Athletic, Stafford is dealing with a hip issue that is described as an aggravated hip. The Rams are keeping a close eye on the injury, and the biggest problem for Stafford is pain management and effectiveness with the injury. Considering Pittsburgh’s pass rush, the hip issue is something to watch.

“I’ve heard dozens of stories about Matthew Stafford’s toughness from his coaches and teammates, even returning to his days in Detroit. While his health has been great overall this season compared to years past, the quarterback has been dealing with an aggravated hip, according to team sources. It’s not considered “serious,” but the training staff is closely monitoring and helping with pain management,” Russini wrote.

There is no worry that Matthew Stafford will not suit up for the game, but again, with the ailment being noted like this, it’s something to watch. The Rams are missing running back Kyren Williams and defensive tackle Larrell Murchinson, while others, such as wide receiver Ben Skowronek and inside linebacker Ernest Jones, are questionable. For the most part, the Rams come into this one healthy, but monitoring Stafford’s status will be critical every week. If this comes up during the game, it could be concerning for the Rams.

As many experts have noted, if the Steelers win this game, Alex Highsmith and T.J. Watt seem like the catalysts for a win. Matthew Stafford has struggled under pressure, and if Pittsburgh can get home, they might have a shot to wreck shop all afternoon.
