The Steelers cornerback situation is in flux, to say the least. After trading for Ahkello Witherspoon, the Steelers have added to their cornerback room. It now stands at six players after re-signing Arthur Maulet to the active roster. However, the man who was supposed to potentially start in the nickel, Antoine Brooks Jr., was injured and then waived with an injury settlement after being placed on the injured reserve.

According to the team, the Los Angeles Rams have added Brooks to their practice squad. The Steelers have long been theorized to be potentially plotting to bring Brooks back to the team after waiving him from injured reserve. However, in order to bring him back, they would have to wait three weeks after his injury settlement period. Meanwhile, other teams were free to sign Brooks as they wished. This is what the Rams did on Friday.

Now, this is just signing him to the Rams to their practice squad. So, the Steelers still could sign Brooks off the Rams practice squad after that injury settlement period if they so wish to do so. However, it appears the Steelers are certainly moving forward with their plan, and that is with Cam Sutton in the slot. Whether Brooks circles back or not will likely be a question of performance as the secondary plays out.
