The Baltimore Ravens saw their NFL-record 24-game preseason winning streak snapped on Monday night with a 29-28 loss to the Washington Commanders.

Commanders kicker Joey Slye made a 49-yard field goal with 14 seconds left on the clock. Baltimore backup Anthony Brown’s Hail Mary attempt was intercepted, and the Commanders broke up the longest preseason winning streak in the history of the league. The Commanders celebrated the win, with Slye holding up an L after making the streak-snapping kick.

The Ravens last preseason loss was a Sept. 3, 2015 setback against the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome, which no longer exists.

Baltimore went 4-0 in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. There was no preseason in 2020. The Ravens went 3-0 in 2020, 2021 and 2022 and started 1-0 in 2023 with a 20-19 win over the Philadelphia Eagles before losing to the Commanders on Monday.

Josh Johnson got the start for Baltimore at quarterback and threw a first-quarter touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers.

Slye kicked his first field goal late in the first quarter and then the Commanders capitalized on a Johnson interception when Washington starter Sam Howell connected with Antonio Gibson on a 9-yard score in the second.

Johnson responded with a 33-yard pass to Charlie Kolar and then a Washington pass interference penalty set up a 7-yard touchdown pass to Tylan Wallace.

Howell drove Washington right back down the field in a 10-play, 79-yard drive that took 1:22 off the clock and wrapped with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Dyami Brown.

Brown came on in the third quarter and hit Travis Vokolek for a 17-yard touchdown to put Baltimore back ahead, 21-17. After a Slye field goal, Brown and Vokolek connected again from eight yards out for another score.

Washington third-string quarterback Jake Fromm led a scoring drive late in the fourth quarter, connecting with Jarrett Patterson a 15-yard touchdown pass to draw to within two at 28-26, but the 2-point conversion try failed, giving Baltimore the opportunity to run out the clock.
But Washington made a third-down stop, forced a punt, and Fromm led the Commanders back into field goal range for Slye’s game winner.

Brown finished 6 of 10 for 40 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, while Johnson was 10 for 12 for 145 yards, two scores and one pick. Starter Lamar Jackson did not play in the game for Baltimore.

The Ravens will wrap their preseason on Saturday, Aug. 26 with a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.
