Saints Snap Up Just-Released Steelers Wide Receiver
The New Orleans Saints have re-signed wide receiver Marquez Callaway, just days after he was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The New Orleans Saints have signed free agent wide receiver Marquez Callaway, just days after he was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Callaway was cut by the Steelers on July 30 after spending the entire offseason in Pittsburgh.
Callaway will now return to the Saints for a third stint with the club that originally signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
Callaway spent his first three NFL seasons in New Orleans, playing in 42 games from 2020-22. His best season came in 2021, when he started 11 games and caught 46 passes for 698 yards and six touchdowns.
He appeared in all 16 games the following season, but was not qualified as a restricted free agent in the spring of 2023 and signed with the Denver Broncos. The Broncos released Callaway after the 2023 preseason, and he caught on with the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad for six weeks before being released.
The Saints brought him back for a second stint last year on Nov. 21, and he played in three games for the club down the stretch run, without recording any offensive statistics. He appeared in just 28 total plays.
After the season, he again became a free agent and signed with Pittsburgh, but never seemed to threaten to crack the Steelers’ rotation. He had been working on the third team of wide receivers during training camp at St. Vincent College before his release.
After an injury to rookie Roman Wilson, the Steelers replaced him and Callaway on their 90-man offseason roster with former Michigan and Texas standout Tarik Black.
