Steelers All 90: S Lamont Wade

Published

on

All 90 is a Pittsburgh Steelers Now series profiling each of the 90 members of the Steelers 2021 offseason roster.

24 • Lamont Wade, rookie safety
5-foot-9, 190 pounds

Acquired: Signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2021.

College: A five-star recruit out of Clairton (Pa.), Wade went to Penn State as a cornerback, but was moved to free safety, making 22 starts in 47 career games.

Wade was named a captain as a senior in 2020 and started all nine games, making 37 tackles, two fumble recoveries, two pass breakups and an interception. Wade also served as the Nittany Lions’ kickoff returner.

Camp outlook: The backup safety jobs are far from locked in, with sixth-round rookie Tre Norwood and free agent vet Miles Killebrew holding down the second-team spots entering camp, but Wade and fellow rookie free agent Donovan Stiner are far from out of the picture.

Future: Wade’s rookie contract runs through 2023, after which he will be a restricted free agent.
