Steelers Brandon Hunt Interviews for Buffalo Bills Assistant GM Job

Pittsburgh Steelers pro scouting director Brandon Hunt had an interview with the Buffalo Bills for their assistant general manager position, according a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Hunt is also a candidate for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ general manager position, one of a handful to have received a second interview. He has also interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles recently for a position in their front office.

In Buffalo, general manager Brandon Beane is looking to replace Joe Schoen, who was hired away earlier this offseason to become the next general manager of the New York Giants.

Hunt began his career as an intern with the Steelers before joining the Texans as a scout from 2007-09. He returned to Pittsburgh in 2010, and has served as the club’s pro scouting director ever since. Hunt has seen his responsibilities in that area grow in recent years, also becoming an important part of the team’s pre-draft process.

Hunt and vice president Omar Khan were the only two internal candidates among the 16 that received interviews in the first phase of the team’s general manager search. The team could also choose to split the role between the two longtime staff members.

Outgoing general manager Kevin Colbert made the decision to step down following the 2022 NFL Draft. Colbert, head coach Mike Tomlin and president Art Rooney II are all involved in the selection and interview process.

The Steelers have not announced a timeframe for making a new hire, but Tomlin’s involvement suggests that the second interviews will likely be mostly wrapped up before OTAs start on May 24.

Hunt’s continued interest from other NFL teams makes it seem likely that if he does not land the Steelers general manager position, he could seek a fresh start elsewhere.
