According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, the Pittsburgh Steelers brought in cornerbacks Montrae Braswell and Mac McCain for workouts on Tuesday. Braswell is an undrafted free agent, while McCain is entering his third season in the NFL.

Braswell was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs shortly after the 2023 NFL Draft but was waived three days later. He was signed by the Seattle Seahawks on June 1 and was released on Friday. In 29 career games at Missouri State, Braswell recorded six interceptions, 25 passes defended, two forced fumbles and 125 tackles, while as a returner he averaged 30.0 yards per return in three seasons, including touchdowns of 100, 96 and 98 yards. In 2022, Braswell was named to the FCS All-America Team as a second-team selection, while being selected to first-team All-MVFC at defensive back and return specialist. He ranked No. 2 nationally and tops in the Missouri Valley Conference Football in kick return average (30.3).  The Avon Park, Fla. native played one season at Central Michigan before transferring to Missouri State.

After going unselected in the 2021 NFL Draft, McCain was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Denver Broncos. He was released on Aug. 29 and signed to the practice squad shortly after. On Sept. 7, 2021, he was claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles and signed to the active roster. McCain played in two games with Philadelphia in 2021, a season in which he was on and off the roster.  He made his NFL debut in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys, playing 13 special teams snaps. He also played in the regular-season finale against Dallas, recording three total tackles in the 11 snaps that he played on defense. McCain spent the entire 2022 season on the Eagles’ practice squad. On Feb. 23, 2023, McCain signed with the Detroit Lions but was released three months later.

McCain was a three-year starter at North Carolina A&T, earning multiple All-American FCS honors. He earned two first-team All-MEAC selections, a second-team All-MEAC honor and a sophomore All-American nod from Hero Sports … Also has All-American honors from the Associated Press (third team), Phil Steele Magazine and BoxToRow (twice). McCain did not play in 2020, as the season was canceled due to COVID-19

Steelers rookie cornerback Cory Trice Jr. was carted off the field at training camp on Tuesday after suffering what appeared to be a right leg injury. Mike Tomlin described his injury as a non-contact injury. The severity of Trice’s injury is unclear as of now, but Braswell and McCain being brought in for workouts could potentially be related.
