Steelers Camp Report: Darnell Washington Shows off Power
UNITY TWP., Pa. — The first eye-catching rep of the first backs on backers drill for the Pittsburgh Steelers at St. Vincent College on Tuesday was not really eye-catching in the literal sense.
An outside linebacker squared off with a tight end. The shorter backer tried to dip around the end on the outside, and got completely and totally shut down buy a strong two-handed push. The players went their separate ways, locked horns again, and the second time, the outside linebacker did slightly better, eventually getting through the block, but likely long after the ball would have come out.
The thing that made those reps eye-catching was not their physical impact, but the fact that it was third-round rookie tight end Darnell Washington and all-world outside linebacker T.J. Watt.
Nick Farabaugh broke down the blocking dominance of the big Steelers rookie tight end and more takeaways from the first day of practice in pads on Tuesday.
