AT STAKE
It’s not necessarily a must-win game for the Steelers if you look at the math, but losing to the Colts would be a crippling blow to the Steelers’ playoff chances, both because of the loss and the loss coming as an AFC tiebreaker and a potential head-to-head loss against a fellow bubble team.
TRANSACTIONS
The Steelers signed WR Ja’Marcus Bradley and RB Master Teague to the their practice squad and released CB Quincy Wilson and DT Renell Wren from their practice squad.
INJURY REPORT
RB Jaylen Warren (hamstring) is out. Benny Snell will be the top backup to starter Najee Harris, with Anthony McFarland Jr. the most likely candidate to be elevated from the practice squad.
CB Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) is out. Expect Levi Wallace and Cam Sutton to start at outside cornerback, with Art Maulet in the slot.
WR Miles Boykin (oblique) is questionable. Cody White could be elevated from the practice squad to replace him as the No. 5 WR, backup X and kick gunner. If not, slot men Steven Sims and Gunner Olszewski will see increased playing time.
ILB Robert Spillane (back) is questionable. Myles Jack and Devin Bush will start and will likely play all of the available reps if Spillane can’t play. Rookie Mark Robinson could be in line to be active for the first time this season and he and special teamer Marcus Allen would be the backups if Spillane can’t play.
FROM THE OTHER SIDE
Jeff Saturday was hired by the Colts to replace Frank Reich in a controversial move. However, after Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni defended Reich after defeating the Colts a week ago, owner Jim Irsay says that the firing was anything but personal towards Reich.
“It’s not personal,” Irsay said of the dismissal. “It’s the very opposite from being personal.”
Saturday is coming out with a chip on his shoulder to prove those doubters wrong. He hopes his team can build something coming off the game against Philadelphia. Nothing is perfect in Indianapolis as it stands, but the Colts and Saturday are out to shut the noise down.
“I don’t have to defend myself,” Saturday said. “I am absolutely comfortable in who I am.”
So, could this see the Colts come up with a rebrewed energy? Saturday is challenging his offensive line to step up in a big way against a talented Steelers defensive front as the offense starts to gel its way back together. They are not hiding from the Steelers challenge.
This is how you start your own legacy,” Saturday said. “Big-time games. There’s no hiding from it.”
