Steelers Cut former Penn State, Clairton DB Lamont Wade

The Steelers have released cornerback Lamont Wade as part of nine cuts on Saturday as the works its way to a 53-man roster ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

Wade, a Penn State and Clairton alum, joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in May and spent most of training camp as the team’s third-team strong safety.

Wade played in all four preseason games and finished with seven tackles.

He was released on Saturday along with tight end Marcus Baugh, running back Tony Brooks-James, cornerback Shakur Brown, defensive lineman T.J. Carter, wide receiver Anthony Johnson, cornerback Lafayette Pitts, guard Malcolm Pridgeon and wide receiver Mathew Sexton.

The Steelers roster now stands at 71 players. The team still must make 18 more cuts before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline to be under the 53-man limit. Of the players released, 16 may be added to the team’s practice squad.
