Steelers Daily: Backup Backs, Young Green Goes No. 5, Ward in XFL
The Pittsburgh Steelers need to improve their situation at backup running back and Elijah Green, the son of former Steelers tight end Eric Green went No. 5 overall in Sunday’s 2022 MLB Draft.
Cale Berger writes that the Pittsburgh Steelers need to find a way to avoid running Najee Harris into the ground this season, after he led all NFL running backs in snaps played in 2022, but that process starts with getting a better quality of backup that the coaching staff can trust.
It runs in the family: Eric Green was a game-changer at tight end for the Steelers in the early 1990s, breaking the mold of the lumbering un-athletic types that had dominated the position for decades. The Washington Nationals hope that his son, Elijah Green, will do the same in the outfield.
Ex-Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward will be one of the coaches in the re-re-launched XFL next spring and joined ESPN to talk about it.
