Steelers Daily: Dress Rehearsal vs. Lions, Heyward at FB

Steelers OLB Derek Tuszka

The Pittsburgh Steelers starters are preparing to play their most football yet in what looks like it will be a full-on dress rehearsal in the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions on Sunday

Cam Heyward said he’ll play this Sunday and expects the starters to play at least the first half.

Mitch Trubisky also said he should start against the Detroit Lions, but made no proclamation about his status going forward.

Ben Roethlisberger was a surprise visitor to Steelers Practice on Wednesday.

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi has his own quarterback to worry about, but he’ll still be watching and cheering on Kenny Pickett.

SN Debate: Alan Saunders and Nick Farabaugh go back and forth about whether Mason Rudolph was given a fair shot to win the Steelers quarterback battle.

Steelers rookie tight end Connor Heyward is expanding his arsenal with an increased workload at fullback.

Steelers Injury Updates: Veteran inside linebacker Marcus Allen returned to the practice field on Wednesday.

The Steelers claimed safety Elijah Riley on waivers from the New York Jets and waived safety Donovan Stiner.

Genard Avery signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers only one day after being released by the Steelers.

Mike Tomlin left the door open for quarterback Chris Oladokun, who was also released on Tuesday, to return to the Steelers’ practice squad.

Former Steelers quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Famer Len Dawson has died at the age 87.

According to Warren Sharp of Sharp Football, the Steelers were 31st in the league last year in explosive play differential (-37) in quarters 1-3. Sharp said teams that make at least two more explosive gains (15+ yds) than their opponent in the first three quarters have won 75% of their games since 2020. Even with this statistic, the Steelers managed to compile a 9-7-1 record and squeaked into the playoffs, and a lot of that had to do with Ben Roethlisberger’s career-high seven game-winning drives.

FanDuel posted a graphic of the number of playoff wins by every NFL team since 2000, and the Steelers have the third-most with 15 wins. The New England Patriots have the most with 30 wins, while the Detroit Lions haven’t won a playoff game since Jan. 5, 1992. The Steelers haven’t had recent playoff success, however, as they haven’t won a playoff game in five seasons, which is the longest drought for the franchise since pre-1972. FanDuel Promo Code.

North Carolina Central University head men’s basketball coach, LeVelle Moton, announced on Twitter that Mike Tomlin made a charitable donation to the Velle Cares Foundation. “My Brother, My Mentor, My Friend….Thank you so much @CoachTomlin for all that you do. I’m forever GRATEFUL for your FRIENDSHIP!” Moton tweeted. The mission of the Velle Cares Foundation is to serve and assist community-based organizations that promote health, education and life skills for children and families in at-risk situations.

According to PointsBet Sportsbook, Mitch Trubisky is the only quarterback since the AFL-NFL merger that has started 50+ games without throwing a pick-six.

Kenny Pickett signed a fresh pair of Steelers-themed shoes that will be auctioned/raffled off to help purchase sneakers for underprivileged youth.
