Steelers Daily Links: Big Ben Hangs on to Record, Cam Heyward Snubbed
With the Green Bay Packers trading Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets on Monday, Ben Roethlisberger still holds the title for most seasons with a single team by a quarterback in NFL history. Rodgers would have broken Roethlisberger’s record in 2023 if he had stayed in Green Bay. Roethlisberger played all 18 of his seasons in the Black and Gold. Tom Brady played 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, but he also played three years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before calling it a career.
Roethlisberger nearly lost the record for himself in 2022, when he said the San Francisco 49ers wanted him to play after they had multiple quarterback injuries. At the end of the day, Roethlisberger said he couldn’t see himself playing for another team.

Monday marked the 19th anniversary of the Steelers’ selection of Roethlisberger at 11th overall in the 2004 NFL Draft. The young gunslinger out of Miami of Ohio took the league by storm in his rookie year, posting a 14-1 record (including playoffs). His lone loss came against the New England Patriots in the 2004 AFC Championship Game. Roethlisberger won Associated Press Rookie of the Year in 2004, becoming the first Steelers rookie to win the award since Franco Harris in 1972. The Steelers knew they had something special in Roethlisberger, and the rest was history.

Former Steelers cornerback Bryant McFadden has Pittsburgh selecting Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks at 17th overall in his first mock draft of the year. “Mike Tomlin loves athletic CBs with swag, and Banks has that,” McFadden wrote. McFadden has Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. landing with the Washington Commanders at No. 16, right before when the Steelers are set to pick.
Bleacher Report posted a graphic of the best current NFL defensive lineman out of Ohio State, and Cam Heyward was somehow left off the list. BR listed Joey and Nick Bosa, Sam Hubbard and Chase Young in their graphic. Heyward caught wind of it, and as expected, wasn’t too pleased by the disrespect. “Damn you would think résumé would speak for itself lol,” Heyward tweeted.
