The Cleveland Browns started the 2023 NFL season off with a win in the Hall of Fame with a 21-16 win over the New York Jets. The Browns got touchdowns from John Kelly on a pass from Kellen Mond, a Demetric Felton run, and rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw to Austin Watkins Jr. New York got three field goals and a 10-yard Israel Abanikanda touchdown.

For Cleveland, the game was as much about who didn’t play as who did. The Browns ruled 23 players out of the contest, and offensive starters Deshaun Watson, Nick Chubb, Amari Cooper, Donovan Peoples-Jones, David Njoku, Wyatt Teller, Joel Bitonio, Jack Conklin and Jedrick Wills all did not play. On defense, Miles Garrett, Greg Newsome, Sione Takitaki, Denzel Ward, Grant Delpit, Anthony Walker and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah were among those held out.

Cleveland has four preseason games thanks to its participation in the Hall of Fame Game. The Browns host the Washington Commanders on Aug. 11, and visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 17 and Kansas City Chiefs on Aug. 26.

🏈 Minkah Fitzpatrick came in at No. 18 in the NFL Top 100, the highest-ranked member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers only had three players in the ranking this year, with Cam Heyward coming in at No. 45, down three spots from 2022 and T.J. Watt at No. 27, down 21 spots after his injury-filled 2022 season. Fitzpatrick jumped from unranked last year all the way to 18th in 2023.

Fitzpatrick was just ahead of Garrett and George Kittle, and behind Maxx Crosby, Stefon Diggs, Fred Warner, Trent Williams, Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs and Aaron Donald. The top 10 will come out on Monday, Aug. 7.

Fitzpatrick has not participated in Steelers practice yet this training camp, but has been excused for personal reasons.
