Steelers Daily Links: Khan on Schedule; Duck Dating Country Star

Steelers QB Devlin "Duck" Hodges

The Pittsburgh Steelers have gone 19-3 on Monday Night Football under head coach Mike Tomlin and have won an NFL-record 20 consecutive home games on MNF. The Steeler are scheduled to play once on MNF this year, a Week 2 showdown against the Cleveland Browns at Acrisure Stadium.

“Hopefully our success on Monday nights continues,” Omar Khan told Dale Lolley of Steelers.com. “Every season is a new season, and every game is a new game. But it’s exciting for us.”

Khan also mentioned that facing the Atlanta Falcons in the third preseason game is beneficial to the Steelers.

“Playing at Atlanta, you always have mixed feelings about playing an indoor game on turf in the preseason, but I’d say when you look at our schedule and how many games we have in domed stadiums this year, the opportunity to get that challenge or experience in the preseason is a plus for us,” Khan said.

🏈 It’s official. Country music singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson is dating former Steelers quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges. The two showed up to the ACM Awards red carpet hand in hand, confirming the rumors that Hodges is not just a big Lainey Wilson fan, but is also her boyfriend.

🏈 The Steelers start the season with back-to-back home games for the first time since 1997. The Steelers got blown out by the Dallas Cowboys, 37-7, in Week 1 in 1997 and defeated Washington 14-13 in Week 2.

🏈 Joey Porter Jr. revealed on Instagram that he’ll wear a Shutt F7 helmet with a visor.

🎂 Happy 36th birthday to former Steelers nose tackle Tyson Alualu. Born on this day, May 12, 1987 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Alualu, a first-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars out of Cal in 2010, spent seven seasons in Jacksonville before playing six in Pittsburgh to assumably end his career. Alualu suffered a season-ending fractured ankle in Week 2 in 2021 and struggled greatly in 2022. At age 36 and with the Steelers electing to not re-sign Alualu in the offseason, it appears that Alualu’s career is over.

📅 On this date in 1960, the Detroit Lions traded running back John Henry Johnson to the Steelers for two draft picks. The Steelers drafted Johnson eight years prior, but he elected to play for the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL instead. Johnson rushed for 4,381 yards and 26 touchdowns in six seasons with the Steelers. He made the Pro Bowl in 1962, 1963 and 1964. Johnson was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987 and is member of the Steelers Hall of Honor.

🎥 The last time the Steelers faced the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1 was in 1993. The Steelers fell to San Fransisco on that day, 24-13, at Three Rivers Stadium. The Steelers defeated the 49ers, 30-17, in Week 1 in 1987 at Three Rivers Stadium.
