Daily Links: Steelers Over Most-Bet Win Total, Mexican Kicker Gets Tryout

Pittsburgh Steelers 49ers

The Pittsburgh Steelers win total at over 8.5 wins is the most-bet win total since the schedule release on Thursday night, per DraftKings. Chicago Bears over 7.5, Detroit Lions over 9.5, Baltimore Ravens over 9.5, and Green Bay Packers over 7.5 round out the top-5.

🏈 CBS Sports: Adam Schein thinks the Pittsburgh Steelers will win a minimum of nine games in 2023, and wouldn’t be surprised if they hit 10. Vegas has the Steelers’ win total for this year set at over/under 8.5.

“I think (with) the Pittsburgh Steelers, the last thing you should do is sleep on them, especially with an unbelievable coach in Mike Tomlin,” Schein said.

🏈 Pro Football Focus: There have been only three players who have recorded 10 receiving touchdowns of 20-plus yards in a single season since 2006 — Davante Adams (2022), Antonio Brown (2018) and Terrell Owens (2007). The Steelers had just two 20-plus yard receiving touchdowns in 2022, and both were by George Pickens. The longest was Pickens’ 31-yarder against the Cleveland Browns in Week 18.

🎂 Former Steelers running back from the 1940s Joe Glamp was born on this date in 1921. Glamp, a Westmoreland County native, starred at LSU before joining the Steelers after going undrafted. For the 1948 season, Glamp set a Steelers scoring record by posting 54 points that season. His record would stand until the 1950 season, when it was broken by Joe Geri. Glamp played 32 career games with the Steelers from 1947-49 before calling it a career.

📅  On this date in 1999, the Steelers signed quarterback Kordell Stewart to a five-year, $27 million contract extension that included an $8.1 million signing bonus. The contract was controversial at the time as Stewart was coming off a season where he had an 11-18 touchdown-interception ratio. Stewart never live up to his contract extension, but he did have a Pro Bowl season in 2001 and finished fourth in league MVP voting, behind just Brett Favre, Marshall Faulk and Kurt Warner.

🎥 After standing out at our kicking camp in Mexico City last month, Alfredo Gachúz got a call from general manager Omar Khan inviting him to try out at rookie minicamp. Alfredo graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.
