49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan hopes to see reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa back on the practice field next week. But he doesn’t have a deadline for when Bosa needs to report to be able to play Week 1 against the Steelers.

“I don’t,” Shanahan said Thursday when asked by KNBR’s Tom Tolbert and Ray Ratto if he had a date in mind. “I’ve never had to make that decision before. I won’t make that until I see him. I’m going to do everything I can to hope that he plays against Pittsburgh, but I can’t make that decision until you see a guy out there. Hopefully we get a chance to get him into practice next week. If he is, that’ll make it a much easier decision for us.”

NFL.com released their Steelers-49ers Week 1 game preview.

🏈 Former Steelers cornerback Joe Haden has been impressed with George Pickens.

“It looks crazy from the outside looking in, just being a fan. If it’s one-on-one on the outside, look off the safety and throw it over there. The dude has shown it’s not a 50-50 ball, it’s a 90-10 ball,” Haden said of Pickens on Cam Heyward’s Not Just Football podcast. “He’s mossing dudes very consistently. You just don’t do that. It’s not a fluke.”

🏈 Steelers cornerback Levi Wallace is teaming up with UPMC to make a difference in the community.

🏈 Fanatics released a Kenny Pickett Funko Pop.

📅 On this day in 2017, former Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell fulfilled his public promise and returned to the Steelers on September 1 after holding out due to a contract dispute. Bell didn’t like the fact that the Steelers placed the franchise tag on him. The Steelers did the same thing in 2018 and Bell sat out the entire season.

🎂 Happy Birthday to former Steelers linebacker Hardy Nickerson, born on September 1, 1965 in Compton, California. The Steelers selected Nickerson in the fifth round out of the University of California in the 1987 NFL Draft. He spent six seasons with the Steelers before he starred with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, earning two first-team All-Pro nominations and five Pro Bowl trips in Tampa. Nickerson played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Green Bay Packers before calling it a career after the 2002 season.
