Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Henry Mondeaux has cleared waivers, according to the NFL transactions page for Monday.
Mondeux was waived by the team on Friday, when the Steelers acquired cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon from the San Francisco 49ers in a trade.
He is now eligible to join the Steelers’ practice squad. Mondeaux spent parts of the 2019 and 2020 seasons on the Steelers’ practice squad after signing with the team from a tryout in 2019.
He spent all of 2019 with the Steelers’ practice squad, but in 2020, he was promoted to the active roster on Oct. 23. He played in 11 games and made five tackles, one tackle for loss and two quarterback hits.
The Steelers have six defensive linemen on their active roster, with Isaiah Buggs, Carlos Davis and Isaiahh Loudermilk backing up Tyson Alualu, Cam Heyward and Chris Wormley. Stephon Tuitt is on the injured reserve list with a knee injury.
The team has one open spot on its 16-man practice squad.
