Film Room: Steelers Desmond King Brings Toughness, Versatility (+)
Less than 24 hours after trimming their roster down to 53 players, the Pittsburgh Steelers added to their secondary, signing former Houston Texans defensive back Desmond King. Originally a fifth-round pick of the Chargers back in 2017, King has been one of the more productive slot weapons in the league, even earning All-Pro honors back in 2018. From the outside looking in, it always felt like King was a good match for what the Steelers looked for at the position and the marriage finally fell into place.
With the free agency departure of Cam Sutton, the slot corner spot has been one the biggest question marks all offseason. Both Elijah Riley and Chandon Sullivan figure to factor into this equation in some form or fashion, but itโs clear that King is going to carve out a role for himself in some capacity. After watching four games worth of snaps to get a general refresher of who he is as a player, weโll dive into the film room to break down arguably his best game of the season: week five against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This breakdown will give you examples of where he excels and struggles while also giving insight on how he fits into the Steelers plans on defense moving forward.
