The Good Guy Award is given to a NFL player for “his qualities and professional style in helping pro football writers do their jobs.” The PFWA first started giving out the award in 2005.
The other finalists amongst Heyward were Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin, Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons and New York Jets tight end C.J. Uzomah.
Heyward is just one of two Steelers to win this award, with running back Jerome Bettis winning the award in its inaugural year in 2005. Wide receiver Hines Ward earned a spot as a finalist for the award in 2006.
Heyward also won The Chief Award for the 2021 season, which the Pittsburgh chapter of the PFWA gives out to the Steelers player that best exemplifies the spirit of cooperation with the media that team founder Arthur J. Rooney Sr. embodied. It is the third time that Heyward won that award.
Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert and former defensive coordinator Keith Butler are both also finalists for PFWA awards this offseason.
