Steelers Exceed Preseason Win Total for 5th Straight Year
By winning their ninth game, the Pittsburgh Steelers have exceeded their preseason betting win total for the fifth consecutive season.
With the Pittsburgh Steelers’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, the Steelers accomplished a rare feat in the gambling world, if not the football one. The Steelers won their ninth game of the 2024 season, meaning they went over their preseason betting total for the 2024 season.
That’s the fifth consecutive season that Mike Tomlin’s squad has gone over the preseason mark, and with five games left to play, they could surpass it demonstratively.
At different times during the offseason, the Steelers’ win total could be had at 7.5, 8 or 8.5 wins, but all off those cleared by the time the clock hit zero in Sunday’s 44-38 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
In 2023, the Steelers also had an over/under of 8.5 wins, and they finished 10-7. In 2022, the mark was 7.5 and they finished 9-8, in 2021, they were projected to win 8.5 games, and the Steelers finished 9-7-1. In 2020, the line was 9.5, and the Steelers cleared it in 10 weeks, starting the season 11-0 before finishing 12-4.
Year | Win Total | Record | Week Surpassed |
2020 | 9.5 | 12-4 | Week 10 |
2021 | 8.5 | 9-7-1 | Week 18 |
2022 | 7.5 | 9-8 | Week 17 |
2023 | 8.5 | 10-7 | Week 17 |
2024 | 8 | 9-3 | Week 13 |
The last time the Steelers failed to surpass their preseason betting expectations was in 2019, when the line was set at 9.5 games, but an injury to star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger helped hold them to an 8-8 record.
The Steelers were the fifth team this season to go over their preseason win total. The Washington Commanders went over 6.5 wins in Week 9, the Minnesota Vikings went over 6.5 wins in Week 10, the Denver Broncos crossed the 5.5-win threshold in Week 10 and the Detroit Lions passed 10.5 wins by beating the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day, earlier in Week 13.
