Steelers Credit Huge Fan Presence for Win in Washington

LANDOVER, Md. — The Pittsburgh Steelers took the field against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, and came away victorious, 28-27. Well, trailing for most of the game’s final 30 minutes, the Steelers knew they weren’t alone. As has happened so many times this season, Steelers fans took over at Northwest Stadium.

This isn’t the only time the Steelers faithful have made an impact on the road. They not only showed out in Washington, but they made the Falcons go silent-count in Atlanta and took over the Las Vegas Raiders stadium.

Sometimes, you get the sense the Steelers aren’t playing a road game. At one point in the game, like in Atlanta, T.J. Watt revealed the home team had to go silent count.

“Huge showing (by Steelers fans) … anytime you can get a team on silent-count, I feel like I say it and every week, it’s very demoralizing for them. They were in silent-count most of the day today.” Watt said of the Steelers fans.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin

Leading up to the game, the Commanders anticipated the influx of Steelers fans — after all, Pittsburgh is only a four-hour drive from Pittsburgh. They decided to hand out burgundy towels to fans to try to create an environment that reflects their primary colors: burgundy and gold. It’s a nice thought. However, the Steeler’s social media team summed it up all too well.

The win puts the Steelers, and Steelers Nation, at 7-2 atop of the AFC North. The schedule only ramps up from here. The Steelers will host the 7-3 Baltimore Ravens in what will be a classic AFC North showdown with first place on the line. This will be the first of all six divisional games, a road trip to Philadelphia, and hosting the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day.
