Steelers Injury Update: RB Jaylen Warren among 4 Out Thursday
PITTSBURGH — Four Pittsburgh Steelers players did not participate in the team’s Thursday practice due to injury in advance of its Week 12 Monday Night Football game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Wide receiver Miles Boykin, center Mason Cole, running back Jaylen Warren and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon were all absent as the team took to the field at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex for their Thanksgiving practice session.
Boykin (oblique) and Warren (hamstring) both suffered injuries early in the Steelers’ Week 12 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Boykin was replaced by Gunner Olszewski, while Benny Snell stepped up into the backup role behind Najee Harris. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that both players will have a chance to work their way back to participation this week.
Cole left at halftime of the game with a mid-foot injury, something that has been bothering him throughout the season. He was seen a walking boot earlier this week. J.C. Hassenauer replaced Cole on Sunday and would do so again if he can’t play against the Colts, but Tomlin said he expects Cole to be healthy enough to play.
Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon has been dealign with a hamstring injury since Week 3. He played against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8, but only the first half and has not been back on the practice field since then. Levi Wallace and Cam Sutton have been starting in his place.
Three Steelers players were given the day off without injury: outside linebacker T.J. Watt and defensive tackles Cameron Heyward and Larry Ogunjobi.
Defensive end DeMarvin Leal (right knee meniscus) is eligible to be activated from the injured reserve list. Kicker Chris Boswell (right groin) and cornerback William Jackson III (back) must miss at least two more games while on the injured reserve list.
