UNITY TWP., Pa. — Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has ruled three players out due to injury for his team’s second preseason game against the Buffalo Bills this Saturday. However, those players are not too far off from returning to the team’s lineup.

Defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, guard Nate Herbig and safety Tre Norwood will all not participate — the only three Steelers players that Tomlin has said will not play due to injury. However, Norwood is back and practicing in a limited capacity, including in some team drills. Herbig did not practice at all on Thursday.

However, Ogunjobi also missed the team’s first preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Friday after suffering a right foot or ankle injury during practice last week. He has not returned to practice work. But the key thing is that he is out of a walking boot, the first big step in his return to the field.

Ogunjobi battled multiple minor injuries in his first season in Pittsburgh in 2022, but he has been remarkably durable in his NFL career. He hasn’t missed more than one game in a season since he was a rookie back in 2017. Tomlin said there is no long-term concern when it comes. to Ogunjobi’s current injury.

Montravius Adams, Isaiahh Loudermilk, DeMarvin Leal and Armon Watts have all taken turns replacing Ogunjobi as the first-team defensive end and tackle.

Herbig was injured during the team’s practice session on Sunday and he has yet to return to full action, though he did participate in the walkthrough portions of the team’s practice on Wednesday.

Second-year lineman Bill Dunkle has been elevated to the second-team right guard spot in Herbig’s absence.

Other players were limited in some of their reps on Thursday. Guard Isaac Seumalo did not practice with a veteran day off. Defensive tackle Keeanu Benton did work in team periods, and ran off to the side during those periods of work. It is uncertain how much usage he will get on Saturday. Joey Porter Jr. was a full participant in all team periods. Linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski was limited and worked in special teams drills.
