Steelers Interested in Reacquiring Second-Round Pick Lost in DK Metcalf Trade
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan says he is open to making a trade to get the team back into the second round.

PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Pittsburgh Steelers traded their 2025 second-round pick (No. 52) as part of their trade for wide receiver DK Metcalf, but they’re looking to shorten the gap between their first- and third-round picks.
On Monday, general manager Omar Khan hinted the Steelers are interested in making a trade to get themselves back into the second round.
“I would say, I think you guys have gotten to know me over the last couple years. I think all options are table,” Khan said. “Staying put, moving up, moving back. I’m open to anything if it makes sense for us.”
Pittsburgh may not have draft capital to do that this year with just six total picks, but that doesn’t mean the team can’t dip into future picks to get a deal done.
The Steelers have been very strategic this offseason in letting several free agents walk out the door that are expected to be countable for a compensatory draft pick slot.
According to Over the Cap, Pittsburgh is estimated to be eligible to receive a third-round pick for left tackle Dan Moore Jr., a fourth rounder for quarterback Justin Fields, a fifth or a sixth for running back Najee Harris, a sixth for guard James Daniels, a sixth for cornerback Donte Jackson and a seventh for linebacker Elandon Roberts.
Quarterback Russell Wilson, who recently signed a one-year deal with the New York Giants, is also expected to net anywhere from a fifth- to third-round pick.

The Steelers won’t get all of those since they’ve signed other players and can’t have more than four, anyway. But they have the ammo needed to move up and down the draft board as they wish next year and this year.
“We were in a position this year where we kind of understood where our contracts were with our free agents, and that a good possibility does exist for us to acquire comp picks, and so that’s always been a part of the process this year,” Khan said.
It’s safe to assume the Steelers are loading up on comp picks to make a move for their franchise quarterback in 2026, but knowing Khan, he may just use one or two to make another splash this year.
