Steelers Invite Sacramento State DL Jett Stanley to Rookie Minicamp
The Pittsburgh Steelers are inviting Sacramento State defensive lineman Jett Stanley to their rookie minicamp next week.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are inviting Sacramento State defensive lineman Jett Stanley to their rookie minicamp, according to State Hornet Sports. Stanley will earn a chance to get a roster spot, which the Steelers currently have four of after the NFL Draft and their first wave of free agent signings.
Stanley, a native of Brentwood, California, joined Sacramento State in 2018 and redshirted his first season with the Hornets. He was named to the Second-Team All-Big Sky conference twice in 2022 and 2023, racking up 4.5 sacks in 2023 to make his mark. He finished his career with 46 games played and 5.5 sacks overall.
The 6-foot-4, 289-pound defensive lineman is a tweener at that size but likely profiles as an interior lineman in the Steelers scheme. That is a very similar frame to sixth-round draft pick Logan Lee, and the team is projecting Lee to play anywhere from the 5-technique to the 0-technique.
“I think he’s a defensive end,” defensive line coach Karl Dunbar said about Lee. “When I mean defensive end, I mean he can play anywhere from the 5-technique to the 0-technique. Because he’s that kind of guy. He has the girth at 295 pounds to play outside because he has a little speed but he mostly an interior guy in our 3-4 packages.”
Meanwhile, Stanley tested well on his pro day, running a 4.89 40-yard dash and putting up a solid 1.71 10-yard split. Those numbers would show the Steelers could be working with something athletically, and that is what they want to see from someone like Stanley.
Rookie minicamp is always the next step in the process for the Steelers Over a few days in early May, the Steelers will host players to compete for open roster spots.
In addition to tryouts, first-year players and drafted and undrafted rookies can participate. Last year, the Steelers signed running back Alfonzo Graham from Morgan State and outside linebacker Toby Ndukwe from Sam Houston State out of their rookie minicamp tryout class.
