The Steelers have placed cornerback Josiah Scott on the practice squad injured list, the team announced on Thursday. It is unclear when the injury occurred, but Scott is part of a flurry of moves for the Steelers practice squad. They brought cornerback Luq Barcoo and running back Greg Bell after releasing them while releasing Anthony Brown.

Scott, 24, was waived by the Eagles on Tuesday and cleared waivers on Wednesday. He is the first player the Steelers have added to their practice squad.

Scott is a guy who played a lot as a  slot option, where he played 328 of his 390 snaps with the Eagles in 2022. Scott also played about 47 snaps of safety, so he has some position flexibility.

A 5-foot-9, 185-pound defensive back, Scott was a fourth-round pick out of Michigan State by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020. He played in six games with the Jags as a rookie, but the following May was traded to the Eagles for Jameson Houston.

With Philly, Scott played in 13 games in 2021, mostly on special teams. He played 171 snaps of special teams and 90 snaps of defense, finishing the season with 12 tackles in all situations, one sack, one tackle for loss, and one quarterback hurry.

His role grew significantly in 2022, as he played in 16 of 17 games and made four starts. He finished the season with 26 tackles, two tackles for a loss, eight passes defended, and two interceptions.

The Steelers still have plenty of cornerback options, but they shortened the cornerback room on their practice squad with these moves. With the practice squad moving to 16 players, its flexibility with veterans is invaluable for the Steelers. In addition to the moves on the practice squad, the team placed Cam Heyward on injured reserve and signed Dez Fitzpatrick to their 53-man roster. The team now has one open spot on their practice squad.
