The Steelers have re-signed outside linebacker Jay Elliott, promoted wide receiver Tevin Jones from the active roster and placed fullback Roosevelt Nix and wide receiver Ryan Switzer on injured reserve, the team announced Thursday.

Switzer, the team’s primary kick and punt returner, suffered a back injury against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday and had already been ruled out for Thursday night’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Nix had missed seven of the Steelers’ first nine games with a knee injury he suffered in Week 1 against the New England Patriots. He returned for one game against the Miami Dolphins, but re-aggravated the injury and had yet to return to practice.

Jones’ promotion was announced earlier in the day on Thursday by his agent.

Elliott will join the Steelers for the fourth time. He was signed late in training camp and released at the end of the preseason. He was re-signed on Sept. 10, released for the second time on Oct. 11, re-signed on Oct. 23 and released on Oct. 31.

Nix is in the second year of a four-year contract that could be worth as much as $6.975 million. Switzer is still playing under his rookie contract, which will run through the end of the 2020 season.
