Steelers Punter Dealing with Hamstring Injury

Steelers P Pressley Harvin

Steelers punter Pressley Harvin III is dealing with a hamstring injury to start the team’s Week 4 prep against the Houston Texans, head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday.

It is unclear when Harvin suffered the injury but Tomlin did not expect the injury to be significant. Harvin boomed punts in Las Vegas, averaging a stunning 53.8 punt yards average. With the injury now an issue, it’s likely the Steelers will look to add someone to the practice squad to help in the event that Harvin’s injury is not short-term and he is forced to miss their Week 4 game in Houston.

The Steelers have two spots open on the practice squad. They lost wide receiver Simi Fehoko to the Los Angeles Chargers, who poached him off the practice squad on Monday. Meanwhile, the team released speedy cornerback Kalon Barnes from the practice squad, so there is room for the team to make a move if necessary.

While Tomlin did not sound overly concerned with the injury, Harvin’s dance partner in training camp, Braden Mann, is sitting on the Eagles practice squad if the team needs to make a seaside move. Former Steelers punter Corliss Waitman, someone who helped the Steelers in 2021 when Harvin missed time, is on the Patriots practice squad.

Of course, there are other names out there as well. But those two will ring bells of familiarity for the Steelers. If they look  to add someone to the practice squad, expect the team to hold tryouts in order to find who that player should end up being.
