Steelers QB Kenny Pickett Has 40/1 Odds for 2023 NFL MVP

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett has the 16th-best odds to be the NFL MVP in 2023, according to odds posted by FanDuel Sportsbook on Wednesday.

Pickett has +4000, or 40/1 odds to win the award, meaning that a $10 bet on Pickett would win $400.

All of the 15 players with better odds than Pickett are also quarterbacks, with Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and 2022 winner Patrick Mahomes the co-favorites at +700.

Mahomes was a landslide winner, garnering 48 of the 50 first-place votes for a total of 490 vote points. Super Bowl losing quarterback Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles was second with one first-place vote and 26 second-place votes, for 193 points. Allen had the final first-place vote and finished with 151 points. Burrow had 128 points. 

Justin Herbert (+900), Hurts (+1200) and Ravens starter Lamar Jackson (+1300) all follow, ahead of four quarterbacks at +1600 to round out the top 10: Trevor Lawrence, Dan Prescott, Aaron Rodgers and Tua Tagovailoa.

Deshaun Watson, Jared Goff and Justin Fields (+2500) and Geno Smith and Brock Purdy (+3000) are also head of Pickett, who shares his +4000 odds with Jordan Love, Russell Wilson and Trey Lance.

The first non-quarterback on the list is Justin Jefferson, with +10,000 odds. Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt, along with Nick Bosa, Aaron Donald, Micah Parsons and Myles Garrett, are the first defenders listed at +20,000.

Jefferson was the fifth-place finisher in 2022 with 55 vote points. Bosa was sixth with 20 vote points. The last non-quarterback to win the MVP award was Adrian Peterson in 2012. The last defensive player to win was Lawrence Taylor in 1986.

The last Steelers player to win the MVP vote was Terry Bradshaw in 1978. The Associated Press NFL MVP award has been given out since 1957. The Pro Football Writers of America also nominate an MVP. The wards have gone to the same player every year since 2004.
