PITTSBURGH — Running back Jaylen Warren suffered a back injury and did not practice for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday as the team continues its preparations for its Week 11 home game with the Baltimore Ravens.
Warren had been a full participant in Wednesday’s practice, but was held out of Thursday’s session with a back injury. The extent of the injury has not been reported, though Warren was seen in the Steelers locker room after practice without any obvious signs of injury.
Najee Harris, the team’s starting running back, returned to practice on Thursday after sitting out Wednesday with an ankle injury suffered in the team’s 28-27 win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
Warren had previously missed time this season with knee and hamstring injuries in what has been an increasingly frustrating third professional season. Through the first 10 weeks of the season, Warren has played in seven games and rushed 55 times for 217 yards. He had 149 carries for 784 yards and four touchdowns last year.
If Warren is unable to play on Sunday, Aaron Shampklin or Jonathan Ward would be candidates to be recalled from the practice squad to replace him, as they did earlier in the season. Shampklin can be elevated from the practice squad. Ward would have to be added to the 53-man roster.
