Steelers Re-Sign TE Jace Sternberger to Future Contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed tight end Jace Sternberger to a future contract for the 2022 season, the team announced on Tuesday.

Sternberger, 25, joined the Steelers practice squad on Nov. 23 after a season ending injury to Eric Ebron resulted in the call-up of Kevin Rader. Sternberger spent the rest of the season on the practice squad and did not appear in a game this season.

A third-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2019, Sternberger played 18 games for the Packers through two seasons.

Last offseason, he was suspended two games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The Packers waived him after he served his suspension.

Since then, he spent time on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad and with Washington, but was waived after not playing for either team. In his career, Sternberger has 12 catches for 114 yards and one touchdown.

The Steelers also signed defensive tackle Daniel Archibong, wide receiver Rico Bussey, defensive tackle Khalil Davis, guard Nate Gilliam, guard Malcolm Pridgeon, outside linebacker Delontae Scott, kicker Sam Sloman, defensive back Linden Stephens, safety Donovan Stiner, long snapper Rex Sunahara and wide receiver Tyler Vaughns to reserve/future contracts on Tuesday.

The 12 signings, plus nine players from the injured reserve and COVID-19 reserve lists and the 53-man roster puts the Steelers’ offseason roster at 74 of the maximum 90.
