Steelers Release Back-Up Long Snapper Liam McCullough

The Steelers have released rookie free agent long snapper Liam McCullough, the team announced on Saturday.

McCullough just joined the Steelers on Aug. 27 after previously having spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason.

The rookie from Ohio State filled in for veteran long snapper Kameron Canaday, who dealt with a shoulder injury throughout the second and third weeks of training camp.

McCullough’s release portends a clean bill of health for Canaday for the team’s season opener Sept. 14 at the New York Giants.

McCullough is the 23rd player to be released by the Steelers since the end of training camp on Friday, joining cornerback Trajan Bandy, defensive ends Henry Mondeaux and Calvin Taylor, defensive tackles Dan McCullers and Cavon Walker, offensive lineman Anthony Coyle, Christian DiLauro, Derwin Gray, Jarron Jones and John Keenoyoutside linebacker Tuzar Skipper, punter Corliss Waitman, quarterback Paxton Lynch, running backs Trey Edmunds, Wendell Smallwood and Kerrith Whyte, Jr., tight ends Kyle Markway and Kevin Rader, and wide receivers  Saeed BlacknallDeon Cain, Amara Darboh, Ryan Switzer and DeAndre Thompkins.
