The Pittsburgh Steelers have reach an injury settlement with tight end Dax Raymond and released him from their injured reserve list, according to the NFL transactions report.
Raymond cleared waivers after the Steelers waived/injured the tight end two weeks ago. Raymond when through the same process in 2020, when he was injured during Steelers training camp.
Injury settlements allow players to be compensated by the team they were with when they suffered the injury, while also allowing them to seek employment elsewhere when healthy, instead of being forced to spend the entire season on the injured reserve list. The Steelers no longer retain Raymond’s rights and he can sign with another team as soon as he is healthy enough to do so.
Raymond originally signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted rookie out of Utah State in 2019. He suffered a head injury in Chicago’s fourth preseason game and he was placed on the injured reserve, then later waived with an injury settlement and re-signed to Chicago’s practice squad. He finished the 2019 preseason with three catches for 22 yards.
The Steelers signed tight end Marcus Baugh to replace Raymond on the 90-man roster.
