Steelers Rookies Have Jersey Numbers Picked
The Pittsburgh Steelers rookies have picked their jersey numbers, and it offers a vast collection of choices across the board.
The Pittsburgh Steelers rookie class had their numbers revealed in full on Friday by the NFL Jersey Numbers account on X. Roman Wilson, Logan Lee, Mason McCormick, and Ryan Watts all were new numbers, but now the full rookie class will have their numbers, and it is as follows:
OT Troy Fautanu — No. 76
C Zach Frazier — No. 54
WR Roman Wilson — No. 10
LB Payton Wilson — No. 41
G Mason McCormick — No. 66
DL Logan Lee — No. 74
DB Ryan Watts — No. 29
McCormick will follow in the footsteps of some prolific guards before him. David DeCastro and Alan Faneca both wore that number for their entire careers, and McCormick will hope to follow in their footsteps on the field. Lee is interesting since he is wearing No. 74. It is unclear if Spencer Anderson is switching numbers or if this is just an off-season double-up situation. If both players make the roster, one of them would have to switch if that is the case.
Watts is taking No. 29, which previously belonged to Levi Wallace. In addition to the draft rookies, undrafted free agent Julius Welschof is wearing No. 44, which was worn last season by outside linebacker Markus Golden.
These are the numbers these players will wear up until the start of the regular season, where they could decide to change it. But they will be wearing these next week when rookie minicamp kicks off at the Steelers facility.
Rookie minicamp is always the next step in the process for the Steelers after the early voluntary workouts. Over a few days in early May, the Steelers will host players to compete for open roster spots.
In addition to tryouts, first-year players and drafted and undrafted rookies can participate. Last year, the Steelers signed running back Alfonzo Graham from Morgan State and outside linebacker Toby Ndukwe from Sam Houston State out of their rookie minicamp tryout class.
Rookie minicamp will take place in a week, spanning the weekend from May 10th through May 12th. Shortly after that, the team will begin to get into more serious team activities.
