PITTSBURGH — Broderick Jones is beginning to emerge with his run-blocking technique. The Steelers first-round pick and Pat Meyer worked closely with one another on Tuesday to hone Jones’ outside zone footwork, hand usage, and technique. Guards Isaac Seumalo and Nate Herbig helped Broderick Jones go through those reps.

The Steelers expect big things from Jones this year as he enters a competition with incumbent Dan Moore Jr. However, Jones will not be handed the job as he starts with the second team. But the rookie tackle has steadily improved over the training camp, while Moore also continues his strong showing.

The team has noted that Jones needs to prove he is ready to start rather than being handed the job. That makes sense from an overall perspective. Of course, Moore has also improved over his years as a starter. It will take Jones being polished enough with his athletic upside to knock Moore off the pedestal.

Even still, Broderick Jones seems like he will inevitably start this season at some point. It might not be Week 1, but Jones is a solid bet to start at some point in the 2023 NFL season, maybe even a bit later in the year. He could experience some early struggles like most rookie tackles. That’s the road the NFL takes with most offensive linemen, though. Jones should be expected to be a cornerstone for the Steelers in the future.
