UNITY TWP., Pa. — Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. took the field for the first time since being injured in practice. The ankle injury that has caused him to be banged up and miss some time has been one that is frustrating but has opened up some opportunities for guys on the depth chart at cornerback.

The cornerbacks went to work with secondary coach Grady Brown. With a lot of inexperience with guys like Joey Porter Jr. and the newly-signed duo of Lavert Hill and Nevelle Clark, there was an emphasis on instilling proper technique. Meanwhile, there are plenty of players that are new to the team, so they will have to mesh together. Minkah Fitzpatrick and Patrick Peterson have vowed to make that an easier transition. Regardless, the Steelers will have some growing pains there.

Joey Porter Jr. hopes to play against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday and get his first real NFL reps in a game. He still needs to go full in team periods, but returned in individual periods and the seven shots team period. As a result, he is not too far off the track from being a full go and being ready to play on Saturday.
