Any time a team goes undefeated in the preseason, it sparks borderline unhealthy amounts of optimism, but the Pittsburgh Steelers were nearly flawless through three games. Both starting units, particularly the offense, looked fantastic in all of their appearances regardless of competition level. With the preseason coming to a close and the regular season quickly approaching, let’s talk about some risers and fallers based on what we have seen thus far. Because of how impressive the team was over the past few weeks, some of these decisions were rather difficult to sort out. Here are the players who impressed or disappointed relative to expectation.

Stock Up: Kenny Pickett

This one feels obvious. To say that Kenny Pickett exceeded expectations during his limited preseason action would be the understatement of the century. He led touchdown drives on all five of his tries with the offense looking more explosive than it has in quite some time. Pickett’s pocket navigation skills looked notably improved compared to where he was coming out as a prospect and as a rookie in 2022. The signal caller started hot against the Bucs and never looked back. With a perfect passer rating during the preseason, the excitement continues to grow around what type of leap he will take in year two as the Steelers starter. Both Pittsburgh’s season and future are largely tied to his development and it’s safe to say that the past month was a very encouraging step in the right direction.
