The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to sign Miami Dolphins linebacker Elandon Roberts to a two-year contract, according to a report by Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network. Terms of the contract were not immediately available.
Roberts, 28, spent the last three seasons in Miami, where he started 43 games at linebacker for the Dolphins. He had the best statistical season of his career in 2022, when he racked up 107 tackles (68 solo), 10 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and six quarterback hits.
The 6-foot-1, 238-pound Roberts had followed former New England Patriots coach Brian Flores to the Dolphins in 2020 after spending the first four seasons of his career in New England.
Originally a sixth-round pick of the Pats out of Houston in 2016, Roberts quickly became a regular in New England, making five starts in his rookie season. Roberts played in three straight Super Bowls with the Patriots from 2016-18, winning twice.
Roberts has consistently rated as an above-average tackler and pass rusher, but has struggled at times in coverage. He allowed a 113.6 passer rating when targeted at an average of 8.4 yards per reception in 2022. That came on the heels of his best pass coverage season in 2021, when he had an 85.8 passer rating against.
Roberts will join Cole Holcomb as additions to the Steelers linebacker room, likely replacing Devin Bush and Robert Spillane. Spillane has already signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, while Bush is taking a visit with the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday.
