The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed free-agent defensive back Arthur Maulet, his agency announced on social media on Friday. The financial terms and length of the contract were not announced.

Maulet, 27, has played four NFL seasons, the last two with the New York Jets. He started 11 games over the last two season in New York, recording 67 tackles, seven passes defended and two interceptions.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Maulet missed five weeks of the 2020 season while on the injured reserve list with a groin injury. He returned to start five of the Jets’ final nine games as the team’s Nickel corner. He was also a significant special teams contributor in New York.

In 2019, he bounced between the Jets’ practice squad and active roster. He spent his first two pro seasons with New Orleans and Indianapolis, playing in six games in each season and making one start.

Maulet originally signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Memphis in 2017. He is a New Orleans native.

The Steelers have a need at defensive back, with the losses of Steven Nelson and Mike Hilton to free agency. The team did not draft a full-time corner in the 2021 NFL Draft, though sixth-rounder Tre Norwood has played both corner and safety.
