AT STAKE

It’s hard to understate just how much is at stake for the Steelers in this one, considering that we’re talking about a Week 5 game.

A win would have the team entering its bye week in first place in the AFC North, with hopes of getting stars Cam Heyward, Pat Freiermuth and Diontae Johnson back from injury in time for the bulk of the season run.

A loss, with the home crowd likely to turn on offensive coordinator Matt Canada if things don’t go well, could send the Steelers into a downward spiral.

STEELERS INJURY REPORT

Alex Highsmith is the lone questionable Steelers player for this game. He was limited in practice on Thursday and Friday, but said he intends to play in this game. The Steelers only have four outside linebackers on their active roster and did not promote one from the practice squad, so they seem confident in his ability to follow through on that promise.

Kenny Pickett will be playing through a left knee bruise and calf strain and likely will be less than 100%.

TRANSACTIONS

The Steelers have elevated center/guard Ryan McCollum and punter Brad Wing from the practice squad for the game. Earlier in the week, the team waived wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick. He cleared waivers and was re-signed to the pratice squad. The team promoted tight end Rodney Williams II from the practice squad to the active roster.

FROM THE OTHER SIDE

The Ravens ruled out outside linebacker Odafe Oweh and placed cornerback Daryl Worley on the injured reserve list, where he joins running backs J.K. Dobbins and Keaton Mitchell, outside linebackers David Ojabo and Malik Hamm, wide receiver Tylan Wallace, safety Ar’Darius Washington and cornerback Damarion Williams. The Ravens also have outside linebacker Tyus Bowser, long snapper Nick Moore, cornerback Trayvon Mullen and offensive lineman Andrew Vorhees on the non-football injury list.

Tackle Morgan Moses is doubtful. He’ll likely be replaced by veteran backup Patrick Mekari. Wide receiver Odell Bechkham Jr., tackle Ronnie Stanley, running back Justice Hill and cornerback Marlon Humphrey were all listed as questionable, but are expected to play.

THE LAST TIME

The Steelers went into Baltimore and came away with a victory in Week 17 of the 2022 season, which was played on Jan. 1.

Pittsburgh came back from a 13-6 deficit, scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter, capped off by a dramatic Kenny Pickett to Najee Harris touchdown pass

The Ravens won the last meeting in Pittsburgh, knocking Pickett out of the Week 14 game between the teams and intercepting Mitch Trubisky three times.

STEELERS-RAVENS SERIES

Since the Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore to become the Ravens, the Steelers are 33-25 against their purple- and black-clad divisional foes.

The Steelers have won five of the last six games, dating back to 2020. The Steelers are 16-11 in regular-season games against the Ravens in Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH CONNECTIONS

Former Steelers quarterback Tee Martin is the Ravens’ quarterbacks coach.

Cornerback Arthur Maulet joined the Ravens after contentiously leaving the Steelers this spring.

TOMLIN AFTER BLOWOUTS

Since Mike Tomlin took over as the Steelers head coach, the team is 11-2 in weeks following a blowout defeats like the 24-point margin the Steelers lost by last week. They’re 7-1 when following a defeat of 23 or more points, including earlier this season, when they beat the Cleveland Browns after being stomped by the San Francisco 49ers.
